Review: Polar City Red
By the time I had read the prologue, I was hooked. The description of earth by 2075, supported by scientific research and most probable outcomes, engaged my mind and heart. We've all heard the concerns raised about global warming. This novel helped me to internalize that reality.
The story progresses quickly. Tension rises as a family escaping from the destruction of earth is rescued by a citizen of Polar City Red. The conflict begins as this family learns the social norms within the city. With nowhere else to go, they elect to join the survivors.
As they say, the rest of the story unfolds. The city must defend itself from the danger of raiders, who attempt to gain food and supplies for their survival. The plot is believable and his treatment of the female characters is genuinely touching.
The research and detail of the city, the impact of global warming, and the weaponry used is impressive.
I looked for increasing conflict and wondered if the family who joined the city could have generated more tension to the plot.
Polar City Red is a good read, and I highly recommend this book. I gave it five stars.
